Norwegian composer and artist Erik Dæhlin presents at OUT.FEST a piece inspired by the Mausoleum of Alfredo da Silva and Barreiro’s industrial history. Fascinated by the city’s former industrial zone, Dæhlin engages with the Mausoleum’s surroundings and the old stands of the Stª Bárbara football field, evoking the city’s past and present. Featuring the Barreiro Municipal Band, the TAB Choral Group, Pedro Carneiro and the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, the work turns memory into a living space of encounter between musicians, audience, and place.

Norwegian composer and multidisciplinary artist Erik Dæhlin, who some years ago took part in a residency in Castro Marim promoted by OUT.RA, presents at this year’s OUT.FEST an original piece inspired by the Mausoleum of Alfredo da Silva and the city’s industrial history. Born from his fascination with Barreiro’s former industrial zone, the work engages directly with the surroundings of the Mausoleum and its adjacent stands - the only remaining “living” trace of the Stª Bárbara football pitch - evoking in the process the city’s past and its reverberations in the present. Developed in close connection with this lived context, the piece brings together the Barreiro Municipal Band and the TAB Choral Group, joined by acclaimed composer Pedro Carneiro and his Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, in an act that goes beyond mere homage to create a living space of communion between musicians, audience, and the city’s past and present.

With a body of work where the benign building blocks of what might - positively - be called IDM are reconfigured into living organisms, upsammy brings a similar sonic landscape to her DJ sets, where rhythmic and melodic instability becomes the engine for both psychedelia and dance. In her productions, the Amsterdam-based producer and DJ approaches shifting rhythmic patterns and radiant melodies with the meticulousness of sound art. But when she steps onto the dancefloor, upsammy crafts an adventurous narrative equally built on friction and calculated risk - pulsing at its core with the celebratory fervor of dance, channeled through its most leftfield edges, from techno to drum & bass, and into realms for which no taxonomy yet exists.

Moin are the meeting point of Raime’s Joe Andrews and Tom Halstead with drummer-percussionist extraordinaire Valentina Magaletti - a power trio taking the guitar-and-drums bedrock of rock music and bending it into strange new shapes. With the restless spirit of Dischord-era post-hardcore and the exploratory drive of early post-rock from Chicago and Louisville, they’ve coined their own wry tag for it all: “post-whatever.”
Built from jagged, dissonant guitar lines and ghostly harmonics, hypnotic polyrhythms and flickers of electronics, Moin’s music finds both intensity and space. Across celebrated releases on London label AD93 (“Paste”, “You Never End” and, most recently, “Belly Up”) they’ve expanded their palette to include the spoken-word poetry of Sophia Al-Maria and the saxophone of Ben Vince, opening up new routes for a sound that’s as stripped to the bone as it is essential. This is rock music boiled down to its raw nerve, and pushed somewhere entirely its own.
