'Solder Sucker', deixado no Bandcamp no Verão de 2025, abre uma janela para tudo isso, mas é no impacto in loco que esta honestidade bruta e física se revela em performance alucinatória.

Self-described as a “wall of abrasive noise from the depths of Benfica parish”, this solitary entity fully inhabits its own manifesto, delivering a sensory onslaught rarely encountered within the local noise underground. Armed with an arsenal of pedals, a Lyra-8 synthesizer, a tin can filled with nails and a homemade noise box, Engrenagem Necrofilia unleashes torrents of raw sound that unfold through a constant interplay of tension and release, recalling, at its most ferocious, the layered intensity of Aaron Dilloway, various incarnations of Richard Ramirez, or the queer abandon of Pedestrian Deposit. ‘Solder Sucker’, quietly deposited on Bandcamp in the summer of 2025, offers a glimpse into this world, but it is through the physical impact of a live performance that its raw honesty truly reveals itself, in a hallucinatory display of sound and presence.

Lançado em simultâneo com um livro do mesmo nome, 'The Clearing' questionava nesse díptico de som e escrita a existência de um tempo linear partindo da sua própria experiência pessoal, num processo de auto-descoberta libertador onde a memória do jazz que ecoa nos sopros e no piano em diálogo com texturas electrónicas ou batidas de inspiração hip-hop projecta um mapa referencial histórico vivo de rebelião negra. Reflexão de todo um mundo de possibilidades continuado já no ano transacto com 'Vesper Sparrow' na Shelter Press, audição obrigatória para todos os que valorizam o levitar.

Composer, producer, writer and multi-instrumentalist, and, in their own words, a “proud stutterer” (a trait reflected in the spelling of their artistic name), JJJJJerome Ellis received widespread acclaim with the release of their 2021 debut, ‘The Clearing’. Published alongside a book of the same name, ‘The Clearing’ used this diptych of sound and writing to question the very notion of linear time through Ellis's own lived experience. The result was a liberating process of self-discovery, in which echoes of jazz, resonating through horns and piano in dialogue with electronic textures and hip-hop-inflected rhythms, chart a living historical map of Black resistance and rebellion. This exploration of an entire world of possibilities continued last year with ‘Vesper Sparrow’, released by Shelter Press, and an essential listening for those who appreciate the art of levitation.

Normalmente associada aos excessos rock de Jimmy Page ou à memória nefasta do solo interminável da 'Hotel California', a guitarra eléctrica de dois braços tem nas mãos de Pierre Bujeau um portal para fora dessas convenções balofas e fálicas. Membro de Omertà e Tans Mein Herz, Bujeau tem em Megabasse o seu veículo solitário para longas e hipnóticas digressões pelas cordas do instrumento, espraiando um minimalismo melódico que se vai revolvendo numa "orquestra" de ressonâncias e harmónicos, evocativas dos sinos e reverberações de catedrais, numa espécie de liturgia psicotrópica e secular, com todo o espaço e tempo para existir e nos deixar levar na sua corrente.

Usually tied to the rock excesses of Jimmy Page or the unfortunate memory of the endless solo in “Hotel California”, the double-neck electric guitar becomes, in the hands of Pierre Bujeau, a portal out of those bloated, phallic conventions. A member of Omertà and Tans Mein Herz, Bujeau uses Megabasse as a solitary vehicle for long, hypnotic traversals across the instrument’s strings, unfolding a melodic minimalism that gradually turns in on itself as an “orchestra” of resonances and harmonics – echoing bells and cathedral reverberations, a kind of secular, psychotropic liturgy with all the time and space it needs to exist, and to carry us along in its current.
Artista secretamente pioneira e influente no panorama das músicas livres em solo europeu, Maggie Nicols tem consumado ao longo de seis décadas uma obra intrépida e preciosa na sua voz. Com inícios bem precoces imersa na dança e no canto jazz, Nicols juntou-se em 1968 ao inovador Spontaneous Music Ensemble, abrindo aí o espírito e o corpo para todo um trabalho que a levou a conduzir inúmeros workshops em torno da improvisação, a colaborar com artistas como Keith Tippett ou a co-fundar o Feminist Improvising Group - revelação do seu papel social activo e apaixonado. Na senda de actuações no Café OTO e posterior registo das mesmas na OTOROKU, Nicols apresenta aqui as suas canções desarmantes para voz e piano. Canções de uma honestidade, beleza e exultação plenas, com tanto de vulnerável na descoberta da melodia quanto de confiante na extrapolação desta mesma. Alegria e comunhão no seu estado puro, acreditem.

A quietly pioneering and deeply influential figure in Europe’s free music landscape, Maggie Nicols has spent six decades forging an intrepid and invaluable body of work through the singular expressive power of her voice. Having begun performing at an early age as a dancer and jazz singer, she joined the groundbreaking Spontaneous Music Ensemble in 1968, an experience that opened the way to a lifetime of improvisation: leading countless workshops, collaborating with artists such as Keith Tippett, and co-founding the Feminist Improvising Group, a testament to the social commitment that has always been inseparable from her artistic practice. Following a series of performances at Café OTO and their subsequent release on OTOROKU, Nicols now brings us her disarming songs for voice and piano. Songs of complete honesty, beauty and exultation, as vulnerable in their discovery of melody as they are fearless in carrying it beyond itself. Joy and togetherness in their purest form. Believe us.
