Moving beyond clichéd images of superficial new age contemplation or artificial interpretations of Japanese zen gardens, one can approach Fujita Yosuke's music as truly meditative, thanks to its immersive and almost ceremonial qualities. After a modest debut in 2011 with 'Hibinari', nine years passed relatively quietly until the release of the revered 'iki' via Hallow Ground in 2020. This critically acclaimed work, crafted with his self-built pipe organ, introduced Fujita's unique sound to a collective consciousness attuned to the most profound expressions within ambient, drone, or minimalism. Yosuke skillfully integrates field recordings – such as the calls of bats in 'Kōmori' – with the enveloping presence of water in dialogue with electronics (in 'NOISEEM'), or the ethereal voice in 'MMM'. Drawing inspiration from Gagaku music, where ritual holds significant importance, Fujita's compositions achieve similar states of focus and transcendence. Indeed, meditation in its truest sense.
