A remarkable artist born in Tennessee at the turn of the century, Zoh Amba burst onto the jazz and improvised music scene with unparalleled impact and confidence. Possessing a command of phrasing, poetry, and passion seldom seen at such a young age, Amba has been unstoppable in her saxophone journey, forging connections with illustrious musicians like Chris Corsano, Micah Thomas, William Parker, and Tyshawn Sorey. Her acclaimed albums include 'O, Sun' – her debut release on the esteemed Tzadik label founded by John Zorn – as well as 'Bhakti' and, more recently, 'The Flower School' alongside Corsano and Bill Orcutt. Inspired by Albert Ayler's music, Amba shares a deep reverence for gospel and folk, laying the groundwork for her expansive sound where echoes of Kaoru Abe's intensity, Arthur Doyle's raw delivery, and Frank Lowe's fervor are felt as much as they are heard. These reverent influences shape a language that is and will continue to be uniquely hers, and which we’ll witness in the pure expression of a solo performance.
