Returning to the festival after a solo appearance in 2013 and as part of Ghosted in 2024, the Australian polymath Oren Ambarchi joins trumpeter Susana Santos Silva for a first-time collaboration. Widely acclaimed for a decades-long practice that has traversed eternal music, the outer reaches of rock, electronics, oblique forms of jazz, contemporary composition and noise, Ambarchi has built an extraordinary body of work, both as a solo artist and through countless collaborations. Taking the guitar as his principal means of exploration, he has continually reimagined both the instrument’s possibilities and the musical archetypes that surround it, always with singular confidence and vision. Equally seasoned and driven by a relentless spirit of discovery, Susana Santos Silva is, without question, one of the most vital figures in contemporary European jazz and free improvisation. Drawing on a wealth of transdisciplinary influences, she has expanded the expressive possibilities of the trumpet into previously unheard territories, balancing lyricism with the unfathomable in a search for a kind of static transcendence that finds a natural counterpart in Ambarchi’s own work.
