Previously known as Maquis Son Sistèm, sòn du maquís is the alias of French artist Stefan Dubs to name his endeavors around dub. Expressed in the shape of 12”records released through his Maquis Son Sistèm imprint, a radio show on LYL and a live dub where he reconfigures his own compositions from tapes, this dj and producer based in Toulouse takes dub not only as a genre but as an open canvas to conceive new narratives. Using the mixer as an instrument, in the true spirit of dub’s pioneers and sound system culture, Dubs pays reverence to dub crossing it with a number of languages born from its foundations in a flow of deep basslines, reverberations, echoes, sirens and breaks.
