RP Boo

A pioneer in the creation, dissemination and advance of footwork, RP Boo could well sit upon the laurels of being a tutelary figure of the genre. There's no doubt, as the title of his last album declares that he's an Established artist, but instead of giving in to lethargy, RP Boo continues to unveil new shapes within the DNA of the music he helped coming to life in Chicago. All the respect due to him since the early 90s is constantly renewed by his restlessness and vision, since he appeared next to originals like DJ Spinn, Traxman or the late DJ Rashad on the first Bangs & Works compilation: an ever essential document released by Planet Mu that put the – until then – obscure genre in its proper spotlight. Since then, always connected to Mike Paradinas respected label, he released four albums where the basic foundations of footwork – the syncopated tension, 160 bpm, sub-bass or vocal sampling from hip hop – are coming to life in new shapes, without ever succumbing to obtuse experimentation. Even at his most unhinged, there's always this intuitive and pure approach, alluring in its vertigo inducing balance. A true master at work.
