Nazar

Rightfully pioneering the term 'Rough Kuduro' to describe his own music right from the outset, this Angolan-born and Amsterdam-based artist has been cultivating a distinctive vision within this continually evolving tag. Drawing inspiration from Angola's Kuduro sound, Nazar elevates the genre's propulsive rhythms to new and indescribable heights, blending hazy ambiences, fragments of noise, and field recordings that carry the weight of the country's colonial past and the enduring scars of its civil war. His debut album 'Guerilla', released in 2020 on Hyperdub, lives up to its name, featuring tracks where syncopated rhythms and the euphoric energy of dance evoke political, social, and deeply personal narratives. Since then, Nazar has been quietly releasing tracks imbued with the same urgency, leaving us eagerly anticipating his next album.
