Pushing the virulent energies of the acclaimed ‘My Mother the Vent’ (2018) to the extreme, in a reflexive response to increasingly turbulent times, the Leeds duo of Uroceras Gigas and Tipula Confusa culminates in the absolute vortex that is ‘Extinction Burst!’, their self-described "xenofeminist crisis-energy rock." Sending the very foundations of the genre off course, they reinvent the guitar-drums-synthesizer triangle as a cybernetic detonation. A kind of augmented reality where synth collisions and black metal-inflected guitar riffs mutate into unrecognisable forms before collapsing into a rhythmic spiral forged in the ecstasy of fire music, within a collective hallucination of multidimensional screams, invocations and panic. The sound of extinction, or of possible futures?
