Carlos "Zíngaro"

Escola de Jazz

A true pioneer of exploratory music in this country, “Zíngaro” has been working steadily for more than five decades, since he founded the mythical Plexus at the end of the 1960s. After the end of the dictatorship and a stint with Banda do Casaco, “Zíngaro” has been creating a vast body of work on the violin, incorporating modern composition, minimalism, experimentalism and improvisation, through a sprawling network of collaborations with such esteemed figures as Anthony Braxton, Evan Parker or, more recently, Marcelo dos Reis and Helena Espvall, dismissing any sort of hierarchical or generational divides. At this year’s OUT.FEST, he presents himself solo, with a performance that, beyond any mere intrinsic historical value, will be revealing of the musician’s continuous pertinence. Photo: Vera Marmelo
