In February 2025, in the small Brazilian town of Socorro, as the last spools of yarn unravelled, the needles of a knitting factory wove their own requiem. bujiwa's (the alter ego of Wladimir Vaz Mourão, artist and editor who has called Barreiro home for some years now) sound piece is the artistic record of that farewell, a ceremony bidding goodbye to a sound that will never be heard again.
Presented, fittingly, at the Ruiforauto car repair workshop, this world premiere draws on recordings made inside the factory: motors, gears and knitting machine needles, joined by the voice of Sofia Nunes, electric bass and a sewing machine operated by Marta Nunes. New technologies, old problems, or old technologies, new problems. The world remains a tangle waiting to be unravelled.
