Decades after the swing, weight, and spaciousness of Dub, together with the infectious repetition of Funk, found their way into the wider landscape of DIY Punk activism, the reverberations of that movement remain as vital and relevant as ever. Within the many possible interpretations of what Post-Punk can be, Devon Rexi carve out their own space, channeling their energy into a stripped-back, groove-driven minimalism, anchored by the tight interplay of bass and drums. Picking up the raw thread left by bands such as The Slits, Pylon, and On-U Sound, the Amsterdam-based group weaves a rhythmic fabric charged with Nushin Naini’s vocal incantations and shout-outs, turntable swerves, and sweeping layers of synthesizer - propelling their sound toward a dance that seems to reach for infinity.
