Rita Silva

A young Portuguese composer and instrumentalist, currently based in Holland where she's attending the Institute of Sonology in Den Haag, Rita Silva is one of this country's most promising figures within our fertile electronic music landscape alongside names like Joana de Sá, Supperminer or Inês Malheiro. After her first experiments captured in 'Studies Vol. I', in a lineage traceable to pioneers such as Laurie Spiegel or Delia Derbyshire – the latter's influence acknowledged in the title of one track -, she confirmed all our expectations last year with the release of 'The Inflationary Epoch' on Colectivo Casa Amarela. Embracing improvisation with modular synthesizers and generative programming techniques, Silva develops a sound in constant flux, where arpeggiated sequences tangle themselves in an immersive, purposeful and beautiful psychoacoustic state.
