Conjured from a two month residency in East Africa promoted by the brave Nyege Nyege Tapes label back in 2018, this meeting between STILL aka Simone Trabucchi and Ecko Bazz follows suit on the synergy of ‘Ntabala (Rolex Riddim)’ - included in KIKOMMANDO, released by Pan - with a tour together. Rapping through the voice and conscience of life in the Ugandan sBazz lums, Ecko Bazz reached a new level of recognition this year with the release of Mmaso. After the turmoil caused in the fertile East African scene with Tuli Banyo in 2018, continues to change perceptions via his incisive lyrics in Lugandan, reflecting the harsh realities, survival tactics and glimmers of hope within his own communities in a fast paced and urgent flow riding a vortex of beats, basslines and synths summoned from particles of rap, grime and dancehall. As a sequence to Mmaso and KIKOMMANDO, STILL proves being a most suited partner to Bazz’s words, with his own productions tackling the same urgency and dark undercurrents that fuel this reality where dancing can be an act of rebellion.
