With his indelible contribution to the advances in electronic and experimental music in recent years - particularly as the mastering hand behind countless landmark albums - it’s easy to overlook the artistic craft of rashad becker. In the two volumes of “Traditional Music of Notional Species”, released on PAN, becker invented a music of his own - an unfathomable compendium, where he constructs a sonic ecosystem with no past or present parallel. In 2025, he returns with the monumental “the incident”. In the absence of direct references, one might evoke the pioneering spirit of early electronics or the late Tod Dockstader in their relentless pursuit of the new - yet becker resists academic hermeticism, building, from his semi-modular system, a vibrant universe of sound, one that challenges notions of timbre, rhythm, and melody in a sonic architecture as meticulous in its genesis as it is open to the senses.
