Born in Tokyo and based in Düsseldorf since 1994, Miki Yui’s ongoing work spans music, performance, installation, and drawing - all interwoven in a fascination with the liminal space between perception and reality. Having collaborated with legends of German music such as Asmus Tietchens and Klaus Dinger of Neu! and La Düsseldorf, Yui reveals, in her solo work, an extremely sensitive approach to the modular synthesizer. Eschewing the pompous tedium or hollow contemplation that dulls many recent ambient-focused projects using these instruments, Yui operates within a rarefied atmosphere. She forgoes hi-tech spectacle in favor of attentive listening, rich in almost imperceptible details, evoking the sublime patience of Eliane Radigue or Laurie Spiegel - infused with a subtle euphoria that shimmers within the stillness.
