David Maranha & Rodrigo Amado

A strangely recent duo, despite the long histories and myriad tangents that precede it, forged by two indelible figures in the evolution of Portuguese music over the past three decades. Musicians with expansive, much-revered bodies of work (Amado emerging from jazz, Maranha from drone and minimalism) who have persistently sparked unlikely encounters and new languages, spanning free improvisation, abstract rock, and electronic conspiracies. Building a shared vision from their deeply personal vocabularies, “Wrecks” - their widely celebrated album from late 2024 - stands as a symbiotic document of music in perpetual flux. Maranha’s hypnotic organ unfurls shifting blankets that move from calm to storm, in cosmic alignment with Amado’s playing - lyrical yet incendiary - driving a torrent of tension and release with no final destination.
