With the release of the searing “A Single Mother / A Single Woman / An Only Child” at the end of 2024, and a solidified lineup featuring chica on guitar, Francisco Couto on bass, and Miguel Gomes on drums, this vehicle for Elisabete Guerra’s - voice and guitar - catharsis has been storming stages with a seldom seen level of intensity and ferocity. There’s a physical, communal continuum of raw noise coursing through this second album, released by Revolve, where Guerra’s torn and wounding songs are carried by torrents of sound and descents into the abyss. Here lie the foundations of noise-rock, but also the raw existentialism of the ’90s - in all its scale, in its most honest and lived form - suspended in an impetuous rhythm section, jittery riffs, memorable melodies, and anguished screams that channel a whirlwind into lyrics both vulnerable and incisive.
