OUT.FEST – Barreiro International Exploratory Music Festival is an annual event, started in 2004, which celebrates experimental music in all its diversity (improvised music, electronics, jazz, contemporary classical music, new idioms), gathering and mapping, in its programme, music’s vanguard history, present and future.
Barreiro is a small-city on the south bank of the Tagus River (20min from Lisbon by car or ferry), on the northern border of the Setúbal district. Having once been one of Portugal’s main industrial cities, Barreiro has been slowly working towards a re-definition of its identity, without losing some of its main features: cooperative, creative, resilient, easy-going and welcoming people with a strong local identity and an intimate connection with the all-encompassing Tagus River.
A trip to Barreiro can be enriched with amazing detours through Setúbal district’s lush Atlantic beaches and amazing wine routes, or a walk through Lisbon’s famous monuments and sites.
Special rates at two of the world’s best hostels: Lisbon Lounge Hostel and Living Lounge Hostel, in Lisbon, 20min via ferry from Barreiro, and at the Principe Guesthouse, right in the centre of Barreiro.
