VLADISLAV DELAY

Born Sasu Ripatti in 1976, the finnish producer and musician has been edifying his career instating various heteronyms such as Vladislav Delay, Uusitalo, Luomo, Conoco and Sistol, so to under each moniker experiment multiple languages like ambient, glitch, dub techno or the iridescent vocal house that for many has become his trademark signature, thus molding and parametrizing the valences that constitute such contemporary musical forms. Over the past two decades he also collaborated with and worked for a wide spectrum of artists, from Massive Attack to AGF, Moritz Von Oswald Trio to Ryuchi Sakamoto, contributing with remixes and embarking on parallel projects of variable duration that undoubtedly enriched his artistic development and maturation. Originally a drummer, throbbed in his teens by the death metal and grindcore of Carcass or Napalm Death that he still cites today as influences, he gravitated soon after towards the jazz universe, a school of life and music that marked in a structural manner his way of thinking his work. It is known his commitment with an idea of integrity on his trade that leads him to problematize with consequence the role of ‘electronic musician’, as he is usually thought of and categorized, on our time and age, from the stage of the musical composition, influenced by the subjects of human intuition and intention vs the current sophistication of electronic programming, to the moment of its presentation in concert, having in mind the available technologies and approaches that best serve the public interpretation of the oeuvre. The artist returned as Vladislav Delay with “Visa”, released on his own label Ripatti late last year, a new vigorous and translucid proposal in the realm of ambient music as he hadn’t published over a decade, since the time of his immaculate series on Mille Plateaux, and it will be on this context that his debut at OUT.FEST will take form.
