ADAO – ASSOCIAÇÃO DESENVOLVIMENTO ARTES OFÍCIOS
PETER BRÖTZMANN & JASON ADASIEWICZ
Peter Brötzmann, returning to OUT.FEST after his performance last year, and a seminal figure in European progressive-minded jazz for the past fifty years, comes back to Barreiro with one of his closest recent collaborators, vibraphonist Jason Adasiewicz, a noisy citizen of Chicago connected with improvisation and free jazz.
The duo has been working together live and on record, as a trio with Steve Noble, and as a quartet with Noble and British double-bassist John Edwards. However, from a standpoint of melodic and harmonic compositional and improvisational decision, its in this horns-vibes pairing that resides the fulcrum of this work, which here operates without a safety net.
Plenty has been written about Brötzmann - how he unceasingly remains on of the most alive, radical and wise blowers in the jazz world; how he becomes more and more refined in his tone and phrasing; how he ferociously transcends himself as a musician, citizen and agitator; beyond the fact that he was a crucial part of all that has happened in the last decades of European improvisation, of which he’s one of its leaders.
Regarding Adasiewicz, who in terms of his discography has been showing his craft to the world in a large with his collaborations with Brötzmann, more declaredly so in the duo records ‘Going All Fancy’ and ‘Mollie’s in the Mood’ (both released on BRÖ), his imagination with dynamics and phrasing really shines through, which helps to illuminate why Brötzmann - a figure usually distant from pianists and other mandatorily chromatic instrumentation - sees in him a like-minded and equivalent audacity, for these and other future conquests. Tonal music, free unto infinity, new songs every day, endless songs, possessing the fury of the brave.
