GALA DROP

No artistic expression is transportable from one season to another, but there can be intromissions from musical ideas that can make that the elements from one or various old musical fields be reactivated on a new one. It is the practice that constitutes the continuity between the past and the present, or even, in another words, the manner by which the present explains the past. Gala Drop, a brilliant band from Lisbon formed around a decade ago, have committed themselves since their inception to search and procure their own truth, more than an identity, so to acutely progress closer to their version of fulfillment and validation, on the aesthetic and ethical levels of their music and work. The most recent album of the group, ‘II’, was released late last year, through a partnership of the band’s GDRecords imprint with the new-yorker dance label Golf Channel Recordings, two years on after the inebriant and acclaimed ‘Broda’, a collaborative record with Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance). Composers and performers of an original and fascinating music, inspired by the endless dimensions of rock and electronic dance music fields, not outstanding the affectious transumancy Africa - Jamaica celebrated since their origins on the sound of the band, their whole path until today seemed faded to arrive at ‘II’, considered by their members as the true successor long-player of their extraordinary and homonymous debut LP dated from 2008.
