Barreiro International Exploratory Music Festival
Portuguese musician with a vast body of work in the fields of classical music and modern composition, Pedro Carneiro is a composer, instrumentalist & maestro whose name can be found in over 100 works. A virtuous percussionist and marimba player, Carneiro is co-founder, artistic director and maestro of the Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa and the Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa, receiving a number of accolades that garnered him invitations to perform as a soloist in orchestras all over the world under the direction of some of the greatest contemporary maestros – from the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra to the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. In parallel with the classic repertoire, Carneiro has been embedded in the world of modern composition – developing a long-lasting relationship with the Arditti Quartet, releasing a monography of percussion pieces by Iannis Xenakis and appearing in recordings from ECM New Series -, and free improvisation like The Book of Spirals released by Creative Sources and his own disquieting compositions in Improbable Transgressions on Sirr. And there's also his work for theatre and cinema. Different worlds that entangle themselves with a determined purpose and bravery. At OUT.FEST, Carneiro presents, for the first time, a repertoire based on the countries studied by the project Unearthing the Music – Portugal, Spain and the former Eastern Bloc.
