Agustí Fernandez

A pianist born in Palma de Maiorca whose hands free themselves from the conventions of jazz to play the unknown and the improvised with a peerless sensibility which has led him to a number of collaborations and to produce work for theatre, dance and cinema. Widely known beyond his home, Agustí Fernandez has been creating meaningful and lasting work over more than three decades, blessed by meetings with illustrious musicians like Derek Bailey, Joe Morris, Mats Gustaffson and (regularly) with Evan Parker, having even recorded with the trio the latter brings to OUT.FEST this year. He is also regarded for his solo releases, where the balances the reckless movement of Cecil Taylor with the challenging decorum of contemporary music – he studied under Iannis Xenakis – with a language full of urgency and commitment.
